New Terminal at Malaga Airport will be fully Operational next Easter
The new terminal at Malaga airport will be ready to welcome its first passengers as from Easter of next year. The new infrastructure has cost an estimated 320 million Euros and will be able to attend to the needs of 9000 passengers per hour – double the actual figure.
The second runway which is being built will take a little longer to complete but is expected to be ready for the last quarter of 2010.
Here’s a few facts about the new airport:
- 179 Check in desks
- 48 departure gates (22 remote and 26 with robotic walkway)
- 385.000 square metres of surface area
- Capacity to handle 7500 pieces of luggage every hour
All these changes and improvements to the airport infrastructure will make Malaga the 3rd most important airport on the Peninsula and position it in the same league as the main European airports.
The fact that the airport will be able to handle much larger volumes of passengers will hopefully have a positive effect on the local industry, especially tourism. This can only mean good news for the Coast.
